Mugawi Ocean

Reading time: 1 min.

The Mugawi Ocean connects the old kingdoms of the human empire to the newest settlements of its westward expansion, uniting some of the empire’s most disparate reaches by oceanic passage. For the purposes of trade and transportation, this crescent ocean serves as a relatively safe and facile method of achieving both, which has spurred production and dedication of resources toward advancements in maritime technologies in the recent many decades. Though the Mugawi is not to be underestimated by any means, it remains a welcome alternative to the perilous sands of the Mirage Desert, offering comparatively tranquil passage for those seeking transport for themselves or their goods.

Named after Mugi, the original god of the waters, this ocean was once believed to be their divine incarnation—a sacred entity to whom coastal settlers owed their prosperity, revered for its bounteous gifts. Though few hold such strong beliefs today, honoring the god remains a time-honored tradition. Sailors pay tribute in many ways, from casting offerings of goods into the ocean to physical dedication carved into the wood of their ships during each journey across its open waters. Whatever the means, these traditions are believed to offer protection and favor to those who traverse this sea nestled by land. For the most part, the Mugawi’s waters are calm and unassuming, yet with little incentive for significant exploration before the advent of the Third Kingdom, there may still be secrets waiting to be uncovered, far in its horizon or deep beneath its surface.
